How I got my dream job — software architect — travel — work — enjoy life

How do I get my dream job? A job with a big salary, A remote job with the possibility to work, travel and enjoy life.

Travel and work at the same time? That’s not just a dream, it’s a reality. I work as a software architect for a software company, and this summer I went on a road trip to Europe. I visited a new place almost every day and went through many countries like the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Not only that, but I worked on a new project and had video calls in an apartment, on the beach, in the car, at the gas station, in the park and many other more and less comfortable places.

I worked hard and smoothly, and nobody from the team cared that I was not in the office. And this was not the first road trip I went on. This is possible because of this kind of Job!

The best job ever is something about software development. Like a software engineer, programmer or software architect!

The best start is to learn how to write useful software. Not boring algorithms like at University! I am talking about software with a few screens and a database.

Application like evidence of something, and so on. Owning a real project is a game-changer for your career. It doesn’t matter how big it is. There are the first baby steps that move you closer to your dream job!

Step number one! Choose your target and development platform.

The best target platform is a web app. It’s perfect because you can use skills from web development on any other platform, like Desktop apps or mobile apps.

The best development platform must be easy to learn, free to use and used by big companies like banks and other big institutions. I recommend Microsoft .NET, which has a huge ecosystem. You can write apps for all platforms, like Web, Desktop, Mobile, Xbox. Another option is Java, which is used in big institutions like banks.

Step number two! Choose a very simple application that you will create.

I recommend simple evidence software. For example, a list of orders for a fake company.

Step number three! Download and install all the necessary software.

For a quick and easy start, install the following components:

• Visual Studio Community Edition for free. This is your source code editor (IDE)
• PostgreSQL as your database.

Step number four !!! Start creating your very first app.
